Speak

What it does

Uses your device’s text to speech to say the notification’s title, text, or a custom phrase.

Related settings

• Settings → Speak actions → Speak mode

  • “Only when ringer is on” (this is the default). Silent notifications are not spoken.
  • “Always”. Ignores the ringer, and uses the media stream when the ringer is off.

• Settings → Speak actions → Speak when screen on

  • Off by default. With this off, nothing is spoken while the screen is on.

• Settings → Speak actions → Silence speak by shaking phone

  • Off by default.

• Settings → Speak actions → Silence speak by volume button

  • Off by default.

• Settings → Speak actions → Repeated phrase limit

  • 2 minutes by default. The same text won’t be repeated within this window.

• Settings → Speak actions → Voice

  • Choose any voice that your device supports.
